Nesmith Library Director
Full-Time (40 hours/week) | Exempt
The Nesmith Library is seeking an experienced, visionary, and community-centered leader to serve as our next Library Director.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead a vibrant, well-supported public library in the beautiful and highly engaged town of Windham, New Hampshire. With approximately 16,000 residents, Windham is an affluent and growing community known for its excellent schools, active civic life, strong municipal services, and high quality of life. Conveniently located in southern New Hampshire, Windham offers small-town charm with easy access to Manchester, Nashua, Boston, the Seacoast, and the White Mountains. The Nesmith Library is the heart of Windham, acting as a community center and gathering space for the town.
About the Role
Appointed by and working under the direction of the Nesmith Library Board of Trustees, the Library Director serves as the chief administrative officer and official representative of the Library. The Director leads all aspects of library operations, ensuring services remain innovative, welcoming, and responsive to evolving community needs.

Qualifications
- MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited program preferred
- Minimum of eight (8) years of library experience, including at least four (4) years in a supervisory or management role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, budgeting, personnel administration, and public service leadership
- Thorough knowledge of public library operations, policies, laws, funding, and reporting requirements
- Excellent written, verbal, and public communication skills
Compensation & Benefits
This is a full-time, exempt (40 hours/week) leadership position. The schedule includes evening meetings and occasional weekend hours.

Children’s Library Assistant Part-time, Nesmith Library
General Summary:
This is a part-time, approximately 15-20 Hour/week position with the following schedule:
- 4 four hour shifts during the weekdays including one evening.
- One Saturday per month 9 AM - 4 PM
The Children’s Assistant will be responsible for assisting with development and implementation of all library services of children from infants thru 8th grade, in conjunction with Youth Services staff. Help children and parents find materials, create displays and assist with organization of all children’s room projects.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- A concentration in elementary education is preferred.
- Previous library work experience with children preferred.
- Other combinations of education and work experience may be considered.
