New Hampshire Downloadable Audio Books
Borrow Audiobooks on your MP3 Player
An exciting new service is now available from the Nesmith Library. Nesmith Library cardholders can now download audiobooks from the Library’s web site to their MP3 players. An excellent selection of titles is available including popular fiction and nonfiction, mystery and thrillers, science fiction, children’s literature and items for young adults.
You will need your Nesmith Library card to checkout (download) these audiobooks. When you get to the check out screen, you enter in 4615 and your library card number (no spaces or dashes) . Once you have checked out your book, you have 1 week to download it to your computer, transfer it to your MP3 player and listen to it. Be aware that your book will "check in," i.e., "disappear," from your computer after one week (even many of those which have been transferred to your MP3 player will no longer be available on your MP3 player after one week).
You can “borrow” up to three titles at a time. And, these titles will never become overdue; at the end of the one week period, they are “checked in” automatically.
You can reserve an audiobook, and when it becomes available, you will be notified; at that point you have 48 hours in which to download the title.
Funding for this service comes from the NH State Library and the pooled resources of a number of public libraries throughout the state, including the Nesmith Library.
Not all MP3 players are compatible with this service. For a list of suggested devices, visit www.nesmithlibrary.org and click on NH Downloadable Audiobooks. Unfortunately, like many other online audiobook services, NH Downloadable Audiobooks won’t work with any version of Apple’s Ipod. Apple has configured the Ipod to read only its own proprietary format.
