Summer Reading Program 2011
Mark your calendars for Thursday, June 23rd **
as we launch the Summer Reading Program at the Nesmith Library.
This year, thanks to the Friends of the Library of Windham, we will feature children’s performer Steve Blunt. Steve is a nationally acclaimed performer that you won’t want to miss! Stop by anytime between 1:00-3:00pm to sign up, grab a snack, and make a decoration for the children’s room. Each child who registers that day will be entered into separate raffles to win a certificate to Kendall Pond Pizza and two tickets to Story Land.
Numerous studies have shown that library programs help ensure that children retain reading and learning skills over the summer.
The Summer Reading Program is designed for children of all ages.
Children under the age of 4 can be registered as a “Little Listener”.
“Read-To-Me” registration is for children ages 4 to 6, and “Independent Reader” is for children approximately 7 years of age and older who are comfortable reading on their own. Great prizes are offered throughout the summer as reading incentives. Books are recorded on individual reading records and raffle tickets are earned. The more you read, the more chances you have to win.
This year’s theme is “One World, Many Stories” with a variety of programs offered throughout the summer. Please note that registration for each program begins two weeks prior to the event. Some programs, such as the kick-off party, drop-in crafts, and movie matinee, do not require registration.
**Please note that if you cannot make it on June 23rd, registration will continue throughout the summer. Stop by the library during normal business hours to register or to pick up a Summer Reading Program flyer.
