Local Scholarships Available  2008

Alice M. Yarnold and Samuel Yarnold Scholarship - Post-secondary school students in the process of pursuing studies in the fields of nursing, medicine or social work can apply for annual scholarships from $1000 to $5000.  Contact the Alice M. Yarnold and Samuel Yarnold Scholarship Trust, P.O. Box 2303, Dover, NH  03821-2303. Applications are due April 14, 2008, and will be awarded in the summer of 2008.

Friends of the Library of Windham Scholarship and Mary Long Scholarship, each $2000 - Applications are now available at the Nesmith Library, Salem High School, or online at: http://www.flowwindham.org/scholarship.html Completed applications may be dropped off at the Nesmith Library until Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008. Scholarship winners will be announced at the Strawberry Festival and Book Fair on June 7th.

Manchester Artists Association (MAA) - 2008 MAA Scholarship and the Georgina Bartholomew Scholarship.  For qualified college-bound, NH high school seniors planning to study art at an accredited institution.  Applications available at http://www.manchester-artists.org/html/scholarships.html .  Deadline for entry is May 1, 2008.

New Hampshire Local Government Center (LGC) Scholarship Program -  Ten $750 scholarships awarded state-wide; for children of parents or legal guardians employed by or an official of a NH city, town, school district, county or village district that is a member/participant in the NH Local Government Center's services on March 1, 2008.  Children of LGC staff or members of the LGC Board of Directors are not eligible.  Applicants must be in their senior year of high school. Applications must be postmarked by March 1, 2008.  Check your high school guidance office for applications.

Windham Democratic Town Committee and  the Salem Democratic Town Committee - $1000 to a Salem or Windham senior who will be attending a post-secondary institution in the fall.  Applications available at http://www.windems.org/ScholarshipPage.html , or at the Salem High School Guidance office.  Deadline April 2, 2008

Windham Garden Club in the memory of Nancy Surette - Two $2000 scholarships will be awarded this year.  Applicant must be a Class of 2008 graduate or older.  Already matriculated college students and second career applicants are encouraged to apply.  Preference will be given to applicants planning to study biology, botany, horticulture, conservation, landscaping, environmental sciences and /or plant related course of study.  Applicant must be a Windham, NH, resident (or a direct family member of an active Windham Garden Club member residing in a neighboring town). Application must be postmarked by March 31, 2008.

Windham Women's Club Academic Scholarship - Two $1500 scholarships will be awarded.  Applicants must be residents of Windham and must be graduating high school seniors. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of scholastic and academic achievement and demonstrated financial need. Applications are available at the Nesmith Library. Applications must be received by April 15, 2008.

Windham Woman's Club Non-Traditional Scholarship in memory of Catherine Klufts - This $1000 scholarship will be awarded to a "worthy woman, resident of Windham, who is a non-traditional student to assist her in obtaining transitional education and been accepted or attending a licensed accredited university, college, community college, business school, vocational technical school or career oriented facility, to enhance career or personal development." Applications are available at the Nesmith Library.  Applications be received by April 15, 2008.
