Present: Joan Griffin, Chairman; Mary Lee Underhill, Vice-Chairman; Mark Branoff, Treasurer; Wendy Keller, Secretary, Carolyn Webber; Anne Marie O’Neil, Carl Heidenblad, Director; Diane Mayr, Assistant Director, Lois Freeston, Assistant Director. Chris Monterio was absent.
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Joan Griffin, Chairman, at 6:05 p.m.
Minutes: The minutes of the September 9, 2008 meeting were approved.
Correspondence: None
Reports:
Financial—Three quarters of the year has elapsed—we have spent 74% of the budget.
Director’s-- Nesmith Library Directors Report, October 2008
Overview.
· Registration. There were 53 new registrations in September.
· Internet uses. 661 uses in September, 2008 vs 581 in September, 2007.
· People Counter. 6031 visits were counted in September.
· Sunday usage. There were 467 visits in September compared to 401 visits in September, 2007.
Statistics—Our collection size totaled 80,502 items. Volunteer hours were 89.4 hours.

Other items:
· The most recent American Public Library ratings (HAPLR) were released earlier this month. In NH, for libraries serving communities of more than 10,000 persons, only the Nesmith Library and 6 other libraries were ranked at 700 (1000 is the highest possible score) or higher.

Unfinished Business
· Strategic Planning Committee—The committee is chaired by Wendy Keller and has met for the first time. MOTION: Carolyn Webber moved that per our By-Laws this committee be recognized as an ad hoc committee. The motion was seconded and approved.
· Personnel Committee Report—Executive Session. Joan Griffin polled the Trustees. Everyone was in agreement. The session began at 6:30 p.m. and ended at 6:40 when the chair polled the Trustees to end the session. The Board of Trustees approved the three recommendations of the director.
· CIP Committee—Carl and Joan met with the committee on October 2nd.
Announcements
· Trustees Emeritus Award 7:00 p.m. tonight
· Trustees’ Meeting—Tuesday, November 18, 2008.
