Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Joan Griffin, Chairman, at 7:11 p.m.

Minutes: The minutes for the March 20, 2007 were approved.

Correspondence: None


Financial: Chris Monterio, reported that through 25% of the year 22% of the budget has been spent.

Director: Carl presented his monthly report for April 2007.


Circulation-- March 2007 circulation was up by 13.5% from March 2006. Total circulation for March was greater than 16,000 items. As noted last month, last year we had 3 months with circulation of 15,000 or greater, and we’ve already reached that point with our busiest months well ahead of us. (We’ve circulated 4656 more items in the first quarter of 2007 than we did in first quarter 2006)

Registration-- There have been 139 new registrations so far this year.

Internet uses-- 1706 since the first of the year, 306 more than the first quarter of last year.

Building and property maintenance

Copier-- The staff and I are not pleased with the performance of the new copier. Conway has been contacted.


Still waiting to hear that the Northeast Document Conservation Center is ready for our materials for microfilming (Windham Independents 1990 -1995)

Slat walled display end – panels. We’ll be requesting quotes on changing end panels in the adult section to these slatwall type display panels.

Staff training was held the morning, of Friday 4/06. We made a first pass at "weeding" our

non-fiction collection; 565 volumes were removed.

Time Limit Manager software programmed with acceptable use agreement. This will limit a user to a 90 minute block so that all possible users can be accommodated.

Statistics: For the month of February we had 6464 visits to the library, 106 volunteer hours and the collection size totaled 79,253 items.

Committee Reports:

Building Expansion Committee: Dennis Mires is addressing outstanding items—HVAC and Patio/Meeting Room issues. Next meeting is April 17th with a member of the firm responsible for the design of the mechanical systems. Again, a chairman is definitely needed. The committee is gearing up to finalize details to present to the Board of Trustees.

F.L.O.W. Lisa Thornton reported that F.L.O.W. is working on the Strawberry Festival to be held in June and a variety of new programming.

The Windham Endowment for Community Advancement—The recruitment committee continues to meet during this phase.

Unfinished Business:

Staff Party—Friday April 13, 2007 at 6:30 p.m.


Nesmith Library 10th Anniversary Celebration in our new building scheduled for Saturday, September 15th from 2-4 p.m . Joan will e-mail an outline of ideas for us to think about.

We discussed the possibility of opening an account at Citizen’s bank so that we can take advantage of the increase in short-term interest rates for the accumulation of excess cash in our non-lapsing accounts. Mark will look into this.
