Nesmith Library Board Trustee Minutes
June
15, 2004
Present: Shirley Beaulieu,
Chair, Joan Griffin, Vice-Chair, Sharon Scannell, Treasurer, Chris Monterio,
Assistant Treasurer, Mary Lee Underhill, Recording Secretary, Pat Skinner, Correspondence
Secretary, Lorraine Bain, Member, and Carl Heidenblad, Director.
Shirley called the meeting to order at 7:09 pm.
Minutes: The
minutes of the April 13 meeting were accepted with the correction of a typo in
the first motion: “was made by
Pat Skinner.”
Correspondence: Thank you notes will
be sent to F.L.O.W. and the Town organizations for their contributions and
participation in the very successful Strawberry Festival. A note will also be sent to the Committee of
the Young Adult Area Project.
REPORTS:
Financial: Sharon Scannell reported that less than 40%
of the budget was spent in the first 42% of the year. The Board discussed the line items with particular attention to
maintenance of the building.
Director: Carl submitted his report
in which he acknowledged the following:
Carl discussed the building and property maintenance issues
that are currently being tracked. His
report showed that in the month of May: 10,449 items were circulated, there
were 8,386 registered patrons, 7,137 people visited the library, 284 used the
Internet and volunteers contributed more than 156 hours!
COMMITTEES: Needs Assessment Committee: Marjorie Judd
submitted her revised report. Mary Lee will arrange a meeting of the committee
to review and discuss the report.

BUSINESS:
Landscaping: Thanks to the Garden
Club and Shirley Beaulieu for making the flower beds look so lovely.
Named
Endowments/Memorial Gift Program: Carl
and Sharon will meet with members of F.L.O.W prior to the meeting of the
F.L.O.W. Board in September.
NHLTA
Conference: Shirley
submitted a written report of the New Hampshire Library Trustees Conference
held on May 15 in Concord. She
mentioned our considering a “Sister Library” in a smaller NH community.
NEW
BUSINESS:
Fourth
of July Weekend:
Carl recommended closing the library on Saturday, July 3.
MOTION: Was made by Pat
Skinner and seconded
That the library be
closed Saturday, July 3, as are the Town offices.
The motion passed unanimously.
Board
of Trustees Meeting in July: The Board agreed to reverse its decision not
to meet in July in order to discuss Sunday hours during the academic year.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
June 21: Summer
hours begin. The library will close at
8 pm on Mondays and 3pm on Saturdays.
June 29: Hypnotist
Thomas Nicoli will give a presentation at the Library on 7 pm.
July 1: Open
House at the newly renovated Searles School and Chapel Thursday at 7 pm.
July 3: Library will be closed the Saturday before
Fourth!
July 13: Next
meeting of the Board will be held at 7 pm.
