FLOW Annual Scholarship 2007
Each year, the Friends of the Library of Windham (F.L.O.W.) award two scholarships: the F.L.O.W. Annual Scholarship and the F.L.O.W. Mary Long Scholarship. This year the amount of the scholarships has been increased from $1,000 to $2,000 each. These scholarships are awarded to two deserving graduating seniors. Each applicant can only apply for one scholarship.
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
· Resident of Windham, New Hampshire
· Grade point average of 3.00 or better
· Accepted to attend a post-secondary institution. Financial need is not required.
· Applicants for the F.L.O.W. Annual Scholarship may be enrolled in any college degree program
· Applicants for the F.L.O.W. Mary Long Scholarship must be enrolled in one of the following degree programs: Art, Dance, Drama/Theatre, Music, Creative Writing, Communications, Broadcast Journalism History, Art History, Architecture, Museum Studies, Art Conservation, Film or Graphic Arts.
To apply, you must complete the following:
· Fill out the FLOW Scholarship application
· Complete the required essay as outlined in the application
· Attach academic records with grade point average
· Submit three letters of recommendation:
- Academic: recommendation must be made by a teacher, past or present.
- Non-academic: recommendation may be made by an employer, a neighbor, a co-worker, a minister, a family member.
- Community Service: recommendation must be made by a supervisor or witness to your community service.
The students selected as the FLOW 2007 Annual Scholarship recipients will be awarded $2,000 to be used toward tuition or the purchase of books and supplies at a post-secondary institution of his or her choice. The award will be based on academic records, recommendations and the personal essay. Selection is made by a committee led by a FLOW board member and will include individuals from the current FLOW board, past FLOW boards and a library trustee. The scholarship checks will be presented to the recipients at the 2007 Strawberry Festival and Book Fair on Saturday, June 2nd.
Applications are available at the Nesmith Library and must be returned to the library by Monday, April 16th, 2007.
